Christmas is a very special occasion in Galway and one of the main events is the wonderful Galway Christmas Market. Our market is bigger and better than any other in Ireland. It is a huge, six-week festival with events, craft and food markets, Santa visits and a Bier Keller that’s a highlight of the festival. Christmas Market Galway 2023
This year promises to be better than ever with an extended opening from 6pm on 10th November 2023 until 7th January 2024. The market takes place in Eyre Square, on the doorstep of Imperial Hotel Galway and up to half a million people are expected to pass through. Last year, there were more than 50 wooden chalets located on Eyre Square along with the Big Wheel, Carousel, Santa’s Grotto, the German Bier Keller along with numerous other delights throughout the four-week fair. This year, we have six weeks to look forward to spanning both before and after the 25th of December. The 2023 Christmas Market is the thirteenth year of the market in Galway and it’s always popular with locals and visitors alike.
What’s on at Galway Christmas Market 2023
Starting on 10th November, the city turns into a winter wonderland. The Christmas Market is a great place for families with lots to do for all ages. We expect to see amusement rides including a 32-metre-high Big Wheel and traditional Carousel, Santa’s Express Train, live music performers, puppet shows, storytelling, school choirs, and a Santa’s Grotto to be run by local charities. You’ll also find a very special North Pole post-box, just make sure you don’t leave it too late to put your request in with the elves!
Christmas shoppers will love the 50+ stalls selling all sorts of local crafts. There is always an emphasis on independent and local traders selling items you won’t find on the high street. It’s the perfect place to pick up a last-minute gift for a loved one or something unique for the person who has everything. You’ll find skincare, candles, toys, textiles, food & drink, and a whole lot more. That’s not to mention the regular Christmas shopping in Galway with everything from designer to high street favourites.
Foodies will love the dining options at the Christmas market with everything from traditional food to festive favourites. Food lovers can feast on a bratwurst, enjoy French pastries, crepes, waffles, sweets, and pretzels, perfect to grab and go while you shop. You’ll also find delicious mulled wine or hot chocolate on offer to warm you up during the cooler evenings. The 2023 Market will also feature artisan food products and Christmas gift ideas from both local and European traders.
Visit Santa in Galway
What could be more festive than visiting the man in red himself, creating memories with your children and taking some treasured family photos. The Galway markets have an excellent Santa visit, starting from just €20 per child, and an age-appropriate gift is included. Beer Tent at Galway Christmas Market
Ideal for family or friends to get together over the festive season, the famous Beer Keller at Galway Christmas Market returns in 2023. It opens from 5pm until 10pm and is ideal for after-work drinks or to catch up with friends in a perfectly festive setting. From Monday to Sunday, you can enjoy mulled wines, hot toddy’s, cocktails, and a great selection of beers from around the world.
